I feel like most people are surprised when I tell them that I don't belong to a gym. I also believe that when I tell people that I work out at home, the first thing that comes to mind is Jane Fonda, a step and terry cloth sweatbands... At least that's what I pictured a home workout to be before I made the switch almost 4 years ago. I was always a gym person- during the week, I'd go before work to run on the treadmill and use the equipment and back after work to take a group exercise class or two. Which meant leaving the house at 5:30am and not getting home until close to 7pm. Weekends were the same, I'd wake up, drive the 25 min to the gym, do my thing, shower and drive the 25 minutes back home. If I was doing a group fitness class, I'd have to schedule my day around the class time as well. This was annoying, but 1.) I was single with limited responsibilities (and therefore more time to waste) and 2.) I didn't know there was another option. This schedule might have worked for me in my 20's, but once I got married, had kids, dogs, a house, etc, it just wasn't sustainable.
Eight Weeks after having my daughter, I tried to go to the gym. I really did. But it wasn't just about me anymore... and by the time I fed her, got myself dressed (and motivated), waited for my husband to come home from work to stay with the baby and gave him his instructions on what to do while I was gone, I didn't even have the energy to drive the 25 min to get there, much less complete a workout. So I gave up and quit the gym.
Over the next couple of months, I tried various YouTube videos and old workout DVD's in my living room while the baby napped and I was literally in awe of how easy it was to make the time to exercise when I didn't have to fit in another hour (at least!) of drive time, check in time, wait for a treadmill to be free time, etc. The only thing I didn't like was that I didn't have a structured program to complete so I didn't really feel like I was being productive. Then I magically stumbled on Beachbody On Demand. An amazing app that had A TON of fitness programs with SCHEDULES! I seriously fell in love and 4 years later, I'm still as obsessed with Beachbody On Demand as ever (if not more so)! I've completed over 30 workout programs on the site and have lost around 70lbs doing it AT HOME!, around my kids schedules. Over the past 4 years my home gym has grown from a 8 by 10 empty space in my living room, to a dedicated room with a bunch of fun equipment and weights (I'll share more about that soon in another blog post - so keep eye out!), but thats not necessarily required. The beauty of the Beachbody programs is that there is so much variety, so many different workouts for different people, and there are always new programs being added, so you never get bored. Working out at home might feel daunting to some, but it's so much easier (and cheaper!) then you can ever imagine.
After 4 years of telling everyone I know how awesome Beachbody is, I finally signed on to be a Beachbody coach in September so that I can help others do what I was able to do for myself. If you have questions or want to try Beachbody on Demand, reach out to me so that I can get you set up.
